List Missing Windows Updates Tool: Glossary

Document Purpose and Introduction
This document defines the fields and terms used in the report from SekChek’s List Missing Windows Updates tool. The tool queries Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) and displays Windows updates not installed on your system.

Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) enables IT administrators to deploy the latest Microsoft product updates to computers that are running the Windows operating system. By using WSUS, administrators can fully manage the distribution of updates that are released through Microsoft Update to computers in their network.

UpdateThe title of the update.
Kb Article IdsThe collection of Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article IDs that are associated with the update. E.g. KB2285068
CategoriesThe collection of categories to which the update belongs. E.g. Windows Vista, Service Packs, SQL Server etc.
Date PublishedThe last published date of the update, in UTC date and time, on the server that deploys the update.
Deployment ActionThe action for which the update is deployed:
  • Installation. The update should be installed on the computer and/or for the specified user.
  • Uninstallation. The update should be uninstalled from the computer and/or for the specified user.
  • Detection. The update is deployed only to determine the applicability of the update. The update will not be installed.
Update DownloadedIndicates whether all the update content is cached on the computer.
Update InstalledIndicates whether the update is installed on the computer.
Mandatory UpdateMandatory updates are updates to the Windows Update Agent (WUA) infrastructure.

WUA may not require all mandatory updates to continue operating. However, these updates frequently improve performance or increase the number of products that WUA can offer.

Microsoft recommends that you install all mandatory updates.

Automatic SelectionIndicates whether the update is flagged to be automatically selected by Windows Update.
Beta ReleaseIndicates whether the update is a beta release.
Suggested Download PriorityMicrosoft’s suggested download priority for the update.
